Sophie Butler, the 2012
Lincoln County Fair Ambassador
Hello my name is Sophie Butler, I was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and moved over to Canada with my family. I now live in Fenwick, Ontario and am in Grade 11 at E.L. Crossley Secondary School. I have a small hobby farm where I have a small herd of miniature horses, a goat and have a rabbit rescue where I take in any abused or neglected rabbits and give them a second chance. One day I am hoping to expand my rescue to large horses, as there is only one other large rescue in Ontario for horses, Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue in Hagersville.
I first got involved in 4-H when I was 10 years old with Littlefoot Miniature Horse Club. I got my first miniature horse when I was 13 and have expanded my herd to 5 with two of my mares expecting foals for 2012. We show all across Ontario and compete against the Haldimand 4-H club at the Dunnville Show and CNE 4-H Show. We also do parades and visit retirement homes. I have been the President of the miniature horse club for 3 years now. We run year round and we continue to get new members.
I am also in the Wellandport Rabbit club and 4-H Goat Club. I have been in Rabbit Club for 2 years now and this has been my first year in Goat Club. Last year at the Smithville 4-H Top Showman competition I won the competition for the Miniature Horse club and this year I competed for Rabbit Club but Andrew Chechalk proved that for his last year he would go out with a bang winning for the Beef Club.
I continue to learn new things and have alot of fun every time I go to a 4-H meeting and I recommend all youth to get involved while you can because it`s a great experience. 4-H is for youth 9 years to 21 years of age and involves a number of different clubs that any youth can join.
I’m honoured to have been chosen out of so many 4-H members to be the 2011-2012 Lincoln County Ambassador and I am excited to represent Lincoln at the 2012 Ambassador’s Convention in February. I am also honoured to be Ambassador as we join fairs with Smithville and hope we have a great turnout at the 2012 fair! I hope to see everyone out at the Santa Clause Parades and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Sophie
