The Lincoln Agricultural Society is looking for volunteers to help with this year's Lincoln County Fair. This is a great opportunity for those high school students trying to earn Community Service hours, or for anyone who likes to help out.
No experience is necessary!

The Secretary
"Green Thumbs" (Horticulture Committee)
The Fairgrounds must look their best at all times and flowers, trees and the like are constantly in need of upkeep, so help is needed to:
- plant, water, weed and general care for the gardens
"Turf Busters and Fair Floaters" (Grounds/Buildings Committee)
Volunteers are needed to help prepare the grounds in the weeks before the Fair to:
- cut and trim grass
- do minor repairs to buildings and equipment, general maintenance
- paint the fences, seating, buildings, etc.
- set up Family Theatre and other special events and areas
- clean the facilities following the Fair and any other special events
Mobile Media Specialist (Marketing Committee)
Volunteers are needed to go around the Niagara Region to:
- distribute posters, prize books, tickets, etc.
- pick up draw prizes and other sponsored giveaways
- sell advance midway tickets
"Groupies" (Entertainment Committee)
Entertainment is crucial to the success of the Fair and help is needed to:
- recruit entertainers and performers for Grandstand shows and Family Theatre
- attend Cruise Night and hand out flyers
- help with Demo Derby
- greet and transport entertainers to performance area
- assist with School Challenge
- help Marketing Committee distribute prize books, posters, flyers, etc.
"Greeters" (Gates Committee)
Greeters are needed to greet visitors to Fair at one of five entrances to Fairgrounds to:
- inform visitors of Admission Prices and collect admissions
- distribute program of daily activities
- answer visitor questions, give directions and other general information
"Pullets and Cockerels" (Poultry and Rabbit Committee)
Poultry, rabbits and pigeons are exhibited at the Fair and help is needed to:
- decorate the Poultry Building for the Fair
- help to set up and take down cages
- fill out information tags and fastened the tags to cages at Fair time
- feed, water and care for the animals during the Fair
"Vintners" (Amateur Wine Making Committee)
Amateur Wine Making is another exhibit at the Fair and help is need to:
- prepare competition area (decorate)
- prepare prizes/ribbons
- assist judges where necessary
School Challenge
A day is dedicated to educating elementary students about agriculture through games, displays and demonstrations. Referees, score keepers and general supervisors are needed to:
- help organize games and prizes
- organize youth entertainers
"Young Artisans" (Junior Fair)
Our Junior Exhibitors are our future Exhibitors and are encouraged to show their art, crafts, flowers, vegetables, canning and cooking, as well as needlecraft and sewing items. Again help is needed to:
- create new classes to generate more exhibitors
- help prepare and decorate the building for displays for the Fair
- man the building during the Fair
"Cattle Wranglers" (Cattle Committee)
There are three cattle shows at the Fair and help is needed to:
- prepare and decorate building for Fair
- record judge's findings and comments during the shows
- organize ribbons for each day's show
- distribute awards and trophies
"Piston Pullers" (Tractor Pull Committee)
A new attraction to the Fair is our "Antique Tractor Pull" and "Lawn and Garden Tractor Pull" and help is needed to:
- collect, prepare and distribute prizes
- prepare the track
- greet "pullers"
Agriculture Education
Hands-on displays and demonstrations to education the public regarding agriculture and help is needed to:
- supervise the displays and assist with hands-on demonstrations
Goats Committee
The Goat Show is held to showcase the Region's best Goats and help is needed to:
- set out gates in the pen area
- make a ring divider with straw bales
- set up Goat Show display for spectators
- assist with the reading of tattoos and record to match with registration papers
- hand out ribbons and record winners
Sheep Committee
The Sheep Show also showcases the Region's best Sheep and help is needed to:
- clean up pen area and ensure gates are tied properly
- open barn and make sure water is on
- divide the building with straw bales
- welcome exhibitors and judges
- announce starting time and judging order
- hand out ribbons and records winners as classes proceed
Parking/Security/Crowd Control
Help is needed at our annual Home Show in April and the Fair in September, plus any other Special Events as booked to:
- help with parking and monitor designated parking areas
- ensure that fire lanes are maintained at all times
- maintain security for vendors and patrons
- assist in locating lost children
Baby Show
Of course, what Fair does not have a Baby Show, so we need help to:
- decorate the area and the stage
- help with registration
- award prizes
Pet Show
During the Pet Show help is needed to:
- record winners' names, addresses and pet names
- award prizes
Concessions
What would a Fair be without Commercial Exhibitors? Help is needed to:
- mark spaces in the Arena
- measure and stake the grounds
- help with move-in and setup of exhibitors
- sweep the Arena floor each morning before the Fair and remove garbage
- check washrooms, sweep and bring supplies, if needed
Horse Shows
We have three Horse Shows each year and help is always needed to:
- set up obstacles for the course
- set up rings and fences
Hay, Grains, Fruit and Vegetables Committee
Local growers show their prize-winning wares of local produce, but first help is needed to:
- prepare and decorate building/tent for displays
- ensure exhibitor tags are placed on exhibits and arranged in an attractive manner
- help erect screens to protect exhibits
- help remove screens and clear and tidy building after Fair
Office
To keep the ongoing aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Office before and during the Fair, help is needed to:
- register exhibitors
- answer phone inquiries
- help with walk-in traffic
- be a go-fer for various committee
Homecraft Division
Everything from Arts and Crafts, Food and Canning, Sewing and Flower are exhibited at the Fair and the Homecraft Division is responsible for the displaying of these award-winning exhibits. Help is needed to:
- prepare the buildings
- accept the exhibits and set up for display
- ensure exhibitor tags are placed on exhibits
- man the buildings
- sell draw tickets
Catering Committee
All volunteers are fed; free of charge, whenever a "Catering Function" is booked (which may be several times a year). Our kitchens are also active at our Home and Garden Show, the Strawberry Festival and the Fair. Help is needed for four hour shifts during each of those events to:
- help in the preparation of food
- serve the food
- set and clean the tables
- wash dishes
